What is a Kavacha?

Kavacha means armor in Sanskrit. It is pronounced kuh-VAH-chuh. Each amulet opens to reveal a hidden chamber designed to hold something sacred—a prayer, a vow, a blessing, or a trace of someone loved. Made to be worn close to the heart and passed down through generations, each Kavacha carries what matters most, along with the story behind it.

In Jayashri’s words: “Traditionally, a kavacha is an amulet carried for spiritual protection. It could contain sacred words written on bark, birch leaf, or another material and worn close to the body.”

What will you hold in yours?

Every Kavacha opens to a sacred space to hold anything special to you: a handwritten prayer, a lock of hair, sand from a special beach, dust from a holy place, even a loved one’s ashes. In her personal collection, Jayashri has held dust from Vrindaban, India, handwritten mantras, a lock of hair from her daughter’s first haircut and hair from her horse’s mane.

Where the designs come from

“For more than forty years, I have worn sacred amulets collected from around the world, drawn to the ancient tradition of carrying something meaningful close to the heart. Kavacha grew from that connection.”

Inspired by antique amulets, nature, hardware and architectural features, the designs range from dainty pendants to large amulets, in sterling silver and in 14K or 18K yellow gold.
